Product Product Manager - Trust and Safety at Chime

Owns trust and safety product strategy, building transaction risk and identity lifecycle systems that reduce fraud while protecting customer access.

Senior Onsite Posted 9 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

About Trust & Safety Roles

At Chime, we believe in the power of our product to help people lead healthier financial lives. The Trust & Safety team spans the full member lifecycle and is responsible for keeping our members’ accounts safe, ensuring uninterrupted access to their money, and minimizing risk and fraud loss across the platform.

We’re hiring Product Managers across Trust & Safety to drive critical investments spanning transaction risk decisioning and member identity and account lifecycle. These roles sit at the intersection of customer experience, risk management, operations, and compliance—owning high-impact problem spaces where the tradeoffs are real and the stakes are high.

You’ll partner closely with Engineering, Data Science, Design, Operations, Risk, and Compliance to define strategy, ship impactful products, and continuously iterate based on data and insights.

These are high-impact opportunities to shape how Chime balances growth, safety, and member experience at scale.

The base salary for this role depends on the position location:

  • San Francisco, CA: The base salary range is $183,000 to $205,000.
  • Chicago, IL: The base salary range is $165,000 to $185,000.

Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, a competitive equity package, and comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on factors such as location, skills, qualifications, and experience. Both roles are available in either San Francisco, CA or Chicago, IL, and candidates may be based in either location.

Open Roles

Trust & Safety at Chime spans multiple product domains. Individual roles focus on one of these areas, contributing to a shared mission of protecting members and enabling safe, scalable growth:

  • Transaction Risk Decisioning: Build the systems that evaluate transaction risk in real time across card payments, peer-to-peer payments, and bank transfers—raising authorization rates, containing emerging fraud patterns, and turning declines into recoverable experiences. Requires deep expertise in payments risk, including card network rules, authorization and decline codes, and dispute frameworks.
  • Member Identity & Lifecycle: This team owns the core identity and account lifecycle capabilities that determine how Chime responds when a member is suspended, closed, re-enabled, or otherwise restricted. The team also serves as a critical partner to product teams introducing new account types or lifecycle behaviors, helping them integrate safely with shared Chime patterns instead of creating one-off flows. Requires experience with identity or account lifecycle systems and cross-product orchestration.

Across these areas, you’ll work on problems that directly impact member trust, financial access, and the long-term integrity of the platform.

In these roles, you can expect to

  • Define and drive product strategy and roadmap within Trust & Safety, balancing customer experience, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency
  • Own ambiguous, high-impact problem spaces and make thoughtful tradeoffs across technology, operations, compliance, and business goals
  • Make high-stakes tradeoffs where decisions directly impact fraud loss, member trust, and regulatory compliance
  • Partner deeply with cross-functional teams—including Engineering, Data Science, Design, Operations, Risk, and Compliance—to deliver scalable, reliable systems
  • Build and evolve systems that leverage data, experimentation, and (where applicable) machine learning and AI to improve outcomes
  • Define clear metrics and success frameworks, using data to drive continuous improvement across member experience, risk outcomes, and operational performance
  • Redesign moments of friction—declines, restrictions, and closures—so they are understandable, targeted, and recoverable for legitimate members while bad actors remain contained
  • Influence cross-functional strategy and align stakeholders across diverse priorities and constraints
  • Drive execution in mission-critical environments where reliability, security, and compliance are non-negotiable
  • Contribute to the evolution of Trust & Safety and Operations at Chime by identifying new opportunities, shaping long-term strategy, and raising the bar for product thinking

To thrive in these roles, you have

  • 6+ years of experience as a Product Manager (leveling will vary based on experience and scope)
  • Depth in at least one of the domains above—payments and transaction risk, or identity and account lifecycle
  • Experience working on complex product problems involving risk, operations, platforms, or customer-facing systems
  • Strong product judgment and the ability to navigate ambiguity and make principled tradeoffs
  • A strategic mindset paired with the ability to translate vision into practical execution
  • Proven ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams
  • Experience operating in systems with significant policy, operational, and data dependencies
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience using data to inform decisions and measure impact
  • Customer empathy, with the ability to deeply understand user needs and translate them into product solutions—with particular sensitivity to how declines, restrictions, and closures affect member trust and retention
  • Comfort operating in fast-moving, high-stakes environments with evolving constraints
  • Passion for Chime’s mission of helping members lead healthier financial lives
